Win a Mondeo!

To celebrate 25 years of the Ford Mondeo, a crack team from Classic Car Buyer and Honest John embarked on a 2500 mile round trip in Europe in a Mk1 2.0-litre GLX 3-speed automatic model and not only did it make It home in one piece, it came back in better condition than it left in!

The guys fully expected to encounter at least a few issues along the way but no such thing occurred and the chaps arrived back in sunny England beaming from ear to ear after their trek. And the best news? You can win the very same car!

But first, some more details on the trip.

The team started off in Peterborough and headed south towards Dover, on to Calais before registering on the Two Ball Rally in St. Omer, France. From here it was a long slog down to Annecy, at the base of the Alps, via the abandoned race circuit at Reims. From Annecy, the team headed over the Alps and into Italy where they stopped the night in Sanremo. The Alps proved no challenge for the Mondeo, despite measuring over 2000m above sea level at its peak.

The team then came back on themselves as they headed for Monaco. After parking up in front of the casino (and ushered along quickly by police with sub machine guns!) it was another motorway slog to Perpignan before embarking on the final leg of the rally itself; across the Pyrenees and into Barcelona. Arguably the toughest part of the leg was still to come, heading 700 miles north into France to Le Mans, where they stayed the night before heading for Calais and back to England.

For a car that’s, let’s face it, a tad underwhelming to look at, the team ended up falling for the Mondeo’s mundane yet brilliantly capable nature. It chewed up over 2500 miles with no trouble at all, in fact the team reckoned it could do the journey again with no issues. Pretty impressive right?
