Fords on Film

This year’s FordFest celebrates iconic movie and TV Fords from the silver screen, with a special display of famous machines.

Film fan favourites such as the Ford Mustang GT500 ‘Eleanor’ from Gone in 60 Seconds and the ‘Interceptor’ Ford Falcon from Mad Max, will sit alongside four-wheeled stars from the small screen. The 3.0-litre S Capri from The Professionals and the Gran Torino from Starsky & Hutch have also been confirmed.

What’s more, in the lead up to FordFest we asked you to name your favourite famous Ford and once we finished compiling the list, it turned out that the 1968 Ford Mustang driven by Lieutenant Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen) came top. So as a result, we had to have a Bullitt Mustang to headline this display and thankfully we tracked down the most faithful recreation in existence.

Dave Redhead’s Mustang is period correct in every detail and movie perfect and not only that, but its on-screen nemesis will be right alongside it in the form of Chris How’s black 440 R/T Dodge Charger.

For Ford fans of (ahem) a certain age, the seventies was a golden era for iconic Fords on film. Foremost among these were the 3.0-litre Capri from The Professionals and the Gran Torino from Starsky & Hutch. Bodie and Doyle (Lewis Collins & Martin Shaw) spent the series hot on the tail of crims in their silver 3.0-litre S Capri. While across the Atlantic, Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul (Starsky & Hutch) were screaming down back alleys and busting through boxes in their distinctive red and white Gran Torino. Both these iconic police chase favourites will be on display at FordFest!

“We all remember those motors of yesteryear from our favourite film and TV programmes. They leave an indelible mark on our petrolhead subconscious. Whether it’s the Bullitt Mustang from the film of the same name or its equally iconic black Charger nemesis, we all remember those chases!” said FordFest Event Manager Kat Chappell.
