Ford Puma 20th Year Anniversary Display

It's been a busy year for Ford Anniversaries but there is always time for one more celebration. At this years FordFest we will be celebrating 20 years of the Ford Puma and inviting Project Puma to put on an impressive display to mark this significant milestone!

A history of Project Puma by Cherie Palmer

"Project Puma was formed in 2007 by a couple of Puma owners, and was originally only intended to be an online playground for other Puma-owning friends. However, by word of mouth, and with an IT expert at the helm, more and more owners were finding Project Puma and signing up. Since then the forum and club has grown steadily to the community that it is today. No-one is turned away, and all Puma owners are welcomed into the group. Whilst the club may be relatively small, many lasting friendship have been formed, and often feels more like a family. It has celebrated births and marriages, and grieved for the passing of beloved members, and in times of need, the whole community pulls together. In 2013 at Ford Fair, one member famously had a spectacular crash on track at Ford Fair. Fellow club members got him and his car home, and through donations and donated parts, the famous 2.3 duratec engined Racing Puma was rebuilt.

The Puma has always been described as a driver’s car, with the emphasis being on the feel and handling over outright speed, and that is still its main appeal today. The Puma has many detractors, but once driven, particularly on twisty winding roads, the effortless handing and the lively and willing 1.7 Zetec engine is combination that is hard to dismiss. For some the Puma was bought as a cheap stopgap, but it got under their skin and now they want to find out how to sort all the little problems that come with maintaining an older car. Or they come to share their track projects, discuss modifications and get advice for getting the most out of their car. Project Puma has attended many shows, and organised meets, drives and social events since its inception, and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come."
